In order to be legally employed by RPH, applicants must possess the appropriate residency / immigration and professional nursing registration. Successful applicants must also undergo pre-employment health screenings and a criminal record check, both of which are organised by RPH.
Registration with the Nurses Board of Western Australian (NBWA) is a requirement for employment at Royal Perth Hospital as a nurse. If you have registration in another Australian State or Territory or New Zealand, you may be able to apply under the Mutual Recognition section with the NBWA.
A person recommended for appointment at RPH will be subject to a criminal record check prior to that appointment being confirmed. Submission of your own criminal record check will not be acceptable. Only current WA Health Criminal Record Screening Unit assessments and cards can be accepted.
The criminal record screening check will be conducted by the National Exchange of Police Information in Paramatta, New South Wales. For 'Serious Offence', RPH will be provided with disclosable court outcomes registered against your name in any Australian Police Jurisdiction, including the Federal Police. RPH will NOT receive information about crimes committed as a juvenile; that do not meet the definition of serious offence; or any convictions that have been 'spent'.
Applicants who are recommended for appointment will be required to pay a fee to cover the cost of conducting the screening of criminal record; this fee will be deducted from your pay.
RPH has a duty to ensure the safe and suitable employment placement of its employees. All prospective employees must complete the Pre-Employment Health Screening Form. This will determine your ability to work in a safe manner prior to the commencement of your duties.
