In order to be legally employed by RPH, applicants must possess the appropriate residency or working visas and professional nursing registration. Successful applicants must also undergo pre-employment health screenings and a criminal record check (where not covered during immigration application), both of which are organised by RPH.
Registration with the Nurses Board of Western Australian (NBWA) is a requirement for employment at Royal Perth Hospital as a nurse. To establish whether you will be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse in Western Australian you should contact the NBWA directly.
You may need to have your qualifications and skills assessed with the Australian Nursing Council Inc. The NBWA will advise if you require this assessment.
The NBWA will advise you about any conditions attached to an overseas application for registration such as the need to sit an English Language Test or the completion of a Migrant Bridging Course. Please contact the NBWA for information regarding this.
Royal Perth Hospital cannot advise you in regard to your application with the NBWA and RPH does not process applications for registration. We cannot assist in sponsorship to undertake Migrant Bridging Courses, English Language Testing or training to become a Registered Nurse.
Overseas applicants must obtain NBWA Registration prior to a visa being approved by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs.
All Royal Perth Hospital employees are subject to a criminal record check prior to that appointment being confirmed. For temporary visa applicants this must be undertaken in the country where you reside. If you have not been living in that country for more than 12 months, then an Interpol criminal record clearance is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to arrange and pay for this prior to entering Australia. Proof will be required before commencing employment at Royal Perth Hospital.
Further Criminal Record Screening is not required for nurses who commence employment within 6 weeks of entering Australia on a permanent visa.
RPH has a duty to ensure the safe and suitable employment placement of its employees.
All prospective employees must complete the Pre-Employment Health Screening Form. This will determine your ability to work in a safe manner prior to the commencement of your duties.
