Apheresis Unit

The Apheresis Unit is a 3 bed, 2 chair multi-purpose treatment area for day case admissions. Nurses working here require knowledge of a wide range of Apheresis procedures.
It is State-wide service initiated at Royal Perth Hospital and provides training for metropolitan nurses upon request.


Nurses administer drugs and cytotoxics by various routes uncluding subcutaneous, IV pushes and infusions. They also administer blood products and attend to dressings, patient education and assist with procedures.

Competency in cannulation, venesection and care of venous access devices are required to work in this unit.
The unit operates Monday - Friday and nurses are required to be on call every alternate weekend
